Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, the community banded together and decided it was up to them to re-create New Orleans.

In the 9th ward, where Katrina had damaged the most in New Orleans, Arise Academy, a non-profit, commenced to build a school that served the children of the disaster-struck and poverty-stricken 9th ward.
